Wisdom tooth removal is a surgical dental procedure. As such, there are special considerations after having wisdom teeth removed.

Immediately following surgery a gauze pad will be placed over the extraction point. Keep that gauze in place for at least 45 minutes, and then discard it. This will help the clotting process. Refrain from drinking from a straw or rinsing your mouth as either could dislodge the blood clot. It is best to limit physical activity that day, as well, and this, too, could slow healing. If you experience pain following the procedure, take pain medication as prescribed to help control discomfort.

You should be able to resume normal activity the day after surgery, although you should still refrain from using a straw as the suction could disrupt healing.
