To help prevent tooth decay and cavities to your rear teeth, or molars, your doctor can apply a two-part sealant over your tooth that provides excellent protection from plaque buildup, tartar, food particles, and bacteria.

Molars first come in around 5 to 7 years of age and then again between 11 and 14. Because they are used so much in  the chewing process, the rear teeth are more prone to decay. For this reason, it is best to have sealants applied when the first set of molars come through to achieve the best results.

To install sealants, an adhesive is first applied to the tooth.  Then, in liquid form, the sealant is placed, or brushed, over the tooth. These liquids then harden to a protective coating that, with proper hygiene and dental care, can last up to ten years.  After that, they can then be applied again. Ask Broadway Dental if sealants are right for you.
