An impacted tooth is one that is too large to fit in its correct space in the jaw. This disruption in the dental arch can cause pain and discomfort and impedes growth. Following surgery to remove an impacted tooth one should expect some pain, swelling and discomfort. These are common and should not be cause for concern. Patients often find relief by using cold compresses and by taking pain medication as prescribed by your doctor. Take medication as directed and be mindful of the extraction site. A modified diet in the days following the extraction is recommended.
